Playback and transport
The controls a reader gets, how much of them to show, and what a PDF or a subscription image contains.
What the reader can do
- Play, pause, restart, step a frame at a time, and drag the timeline anywhere.
- Change speed between 0.25x and 4x, from a default you set.
How much of the transport to show
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Position | Controls sit below or above the chart. |
| Hidden | No controls at all. The visual plays on load. |
| Reduced | Buttons without the timeline, or without the speed selector. |
| On hover | Controls appear only when the pointer is over the visual. |
| Auto-hide | Controls fade out on their own. |
Playback behaviour
Loop on completion, pause on hover, and pause when a mark is selected are each independent settings, so a chart can loop quietly on a dashboard and still stop when somebody reaches for it.
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Direction | Forward, reverse, or ping-pong. |
| Frame range | Bound the run to a start and end date, so the report animates a window rather than the whole table. |
Static export
A PDF, a PowerPoint export or an emailed subscription cannot show an animation. Static export decides which single frame they get: the first, the last, or one you name.
